Ari Ólafsson is a 19-year-old singer from Iceland. He grew up in Reykjavík and lived in Florida USA at a young age. He started singing at a very early age, when he was only eleven years old was discovered by Selma and Ari gain the leading role in the musical Oliver! at the national theatre of Iceland. Ari became a professional singer and actor and participated in the biggest stages and theatres of Iceland. In 2011 Sissel Kyrkjebo, the Norwegian megastar singer, noticed and invited him in several occasions. With this opportunity Ólafsson moved on to study classical singing. Ari has many collaborations with well-known Icelandic singers, he became very popular with his participation on the Icelandic edition of The Voice 2015 and last year he was a backing vocalist in Söngvakeppnin. Royal Academy of music in London accepted him with full scholarship this fall. Eurovision was always a dream for Ari, from little child he wanted to be part of this competition. This year he entered the National Selection of Iceland with the song “Our Choice”. The song is written by Thorunn Clausen who has also wrote the Icelantic entry in 2011 Coming Home. Iceland will compete in the first half of the First Semi-Final at 8 May. |
