Aleksandar Sanja Ilić is singer, author and composer. His group Sanja Ilić & Balkanika assembles musicians who play old instruments from the Balkans and Aleksandar trying to blend them into a modern pop-rock sound. The original sound and musical style of Balkanika is a combination of world’s music elements based on the powerful native rhythm of the Balkans mixed with modern approaches. The sound of Sanja Ilić & Balkanika gain the international audience and the band known popularity not only in Serbia but also in Russia, in the United States and even in South Korea where they travel to perform in front thousands of people. The original band was six instrumentalists, one male, and two female vocals but later they were joined by two trumpeters and one female vocalist. The combination of the female ethnic vocals and powerful male rock vocals with electronic sound and ethnic Balkanic instruments, give a modern sound that can be heard for the first time on the band’s recordings. |
